All black outfits are some of my favorite. Maybe it’s because it just takes some weight of this poor mom brain that sometimes can’t think. However as easy as it may be, sometimes it can get boring. That’s when another favorite color comes in the picture: Navy. Yes I know it used to be a No, No at some point. I remember reading through a magazine around 10 years ago that said that black and navy didn’t go together and it was a faux-pass.
Well it’s not and to be honest I never stopped wearing this combo. Rules were meant to be broken, right? (something I’m definitely not teaching to my kids anytime soon) Black and navy together makes the outfit fresher and stands out more than an all black outfit. Moreover it makes petite frames like me to look taller and I’m all about that!
One trick to follow same as with an all black outfit, is to mix textures and prints. It makes it more fun. I love that my blazer is stripped in both colors and my neck scarf is velvet. I also love how the suede of my boots looks with the dark wash of my jeans. Navy and black over-the-knee boots are way less scary. At least for me as a petite. I have to be careful otherwise I’ll cut my body in half and look tinier. Whenever I can wear my heeled otk boots over jeans I do it because I get mile long legs. You bet that’s one of my go to’s for any date night in the winter time.
I know it’s not a crazy color combination or something super eye-catching, but it’s stylish and chic. And if you are too cold a camel top coat goes great with it. Well..I wear a camel coat on top of everything. Even leggings and hoodie for school drop-off so I may be biased. Ha!
What are your thoughts on wearing black and navy together?
